About New York Yankees
New York Yankees…The Best of the Best
Whether you’re a sports fan or not, chances are you know who the New York Yankees are. They got their start as one of the eight charter franchises in the American League. In 1901, when the team was started, they were based in Maryland, known as the Baltimore Orioles, but this didn’t last. 1903 saw the team move to New York, although they did not take the name Yankees until 1913.
The New York Yankees are the most successful team in North American professional sports when it comes to wins. They have 27 World Series Titles, 40 American League Pennants, 16 East Division Titles, and three Wild Card Berths.
Likely contributing to the team’s great successes and fame is the number of amazing players they have had throughout the years. Big names such as Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Yogi Berra, Mickey Mantle, and Joe DiMaggio have all been proud to wear the uniform of the Yankees.
Because of their success, the New York Yankees are one of the most loved and most hated teams in baseball. Consistently setting records for attendance both at home and on the road, and records for winning games and seasons, the Yankees have fans all over the world. They are owned by the corporation known as Yankee Global Enterprises LLC along with the television station YES, which is dedicated to showing Yankees games and those of the New Jersey Nets.
The fiercest rivalry in baseball history is the one between the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox. The rivalry dates back to the early nineteen hundreds when the owner of the Red Sox sold many players, including the talented Babe Ruth to the Yankees to finance his Broadway shows and pay off debts incurred from those shows and from the purchase of the team.
The successful Red Sox would not win another series for the next 84 years, a drought jokingly referred to as the curse of the Bambino. At the same time, the Yankees who were close to the bottom of the league before the sale suddenly began winning, and to this day remain the most successful team in the league by far.
The New York Yankees and their fans have plenty of reason to be excited. Beginning in 2009, the team plays in a brand new Yankees Stadium, replacing the old one which had been built in 1923. The new stadium is much the same as the old one but with a few improvements. The amenities are improved and seating can accommodate more than 52,000 people with standing room.
The Yankees are one team that has fans all over the world. With consistent winning seasons and a new stadium, the team provides plenty of entertainment for fans of all ages. They have some of the most devoted fans in the world and have been earning that loyalty for a century.
